California Water Service Celebrates 90 Years of Service

Customer Appreciation Event Held Sunday, June 4th

Bakersfield, Calif. — California Water Service (Cal Water) celebrated 90 years of service in Bakersfield at the Kern County Fairgrounds with about 2,000 local residents on Sunday afternoon. The free event was open to Cal Water customers to show appreciation for 90 years of service.

Bakersfield District Manager Mike Mares said, "We pride ourselves on providing high-quality, reliable water service, and it’s an honor to serve the residents and businesses of Bakersfield for as long as we have. We look forward to continue providing the high standard of quality our customers expect and deserve."

Cal Water partnered with the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 93 to cater hamburgers and hot dogs, and brought La Rosa Fruit Bars & Ice Cream to provide their locally made fruit bar popsicles. Children had their faces painted, and both kids and kids at heart played carnival games for prizes.

Mares presented donations to the Boys and Girls Club, Ronald McDonald House, and Garden Pathways. Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh, Councilmembers Ken Weir and Chris Parlier, and representatives from Senator Jean Fuller and Assemblymembers Vince Fong and Rudy Salas presented Mares with certificates in recognition of Cal Water’s long-standing service to the community.

Five lucky raffle winners walked away with drought-resistant potted plants. Cal Water engineers and conservation representatives were also on hand to help customers with water system questions and their water-saving goals.

Irish Step Dancing routines by Centre Stage Bakersfield, a traditional Mexican Ballet performance by the Folklorico Huaztecalli, and junior magician Josiah Bunde entertained guests. The City of Bakersfield Animal Shelter reported that three dogs and two cats found forever homes through its mobile pet adoption program.

Cal Water serves about 71,100 service connections in Bakersfield and about 2 million people through 482,400 service connections in California. The company has provided water service in the area since 1926. Additional information may be obtained online at
