California Water Service Completes Water Main Upgrade in Bayshore District

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — California Water Service (Cal Water) has completed installation of a new water main along Hillside Boulevard, Hemlock Avenue, and Larch Avenue in South San Francisco. The new main will improve water system reliability in the area and increase fire protection.

Crews installed approximately two miles of new 6-inch water main beginning in July 2017 and ending this month. The new pipes are made of PVC, which generally lasts longer than other materials and does not corrode. The durability of these new pipes also means that customers will see benefits from this infrastructure upgrade both now and for decades to come.

"In 2017, Cal Water invested almost $11.3 million in water infrastructure improvement projects in our Bayshore District, and this large-scale water system upgrade is just one project that we will complete in 2018 to provide better quality, service, and value to our customers," said District Manager Ross Moilan.

Cal Water serves approximately 53,500 service connections in San Carlos, San Mateo, and South San Francisco and about 2 million people through 480,300 service connections in California. The utility has provided water service in the area since 1931. Additional information may be obtained online at
