California Water Service Main Replacement Project in Chico to Improve Water Supply Reliability

CHICO, Calif. — California Water Service (Cal Water) has completed a water main replacement project in the city of Chico that will increase the flow of water, prevent leaks, enhance firefighting capabilities, and improve the overall water supply reliability of the system for customers on Salem Street, between 12th and 16th Streets.

Crews replaced 2,805 feet of aging 4- and 2-inch cast iron and 4-inch steel mains with 8-inch PVC pipes. During the project, Cal Water also installed one new fire hydrant to improve fire protection.

"This project was unique for our team, because it eliminated areas where smaller, dual mains served customers. Now, our customers benefit from a new, single main that is exponentially more reliable," said District Manager Pete Bonacich. "This infrastructure system improvement project is just part of our commitment to providing our Chico customers with quality, service, and value that will last for decades to come."

Cal Water serves about 97,300 people through 29,000 service connections in Chico and Hamilton City. The utility has provided water service in the area since 1926. Additional information may be obtained online at www.calwater.com.
