California Water Service Supports Bakersfield Community Through 2016 Charitable Contributions

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — As part of its ongoing commitment to improving the quality of life in the areas it serves, California Water Service (Cal Water) supports an array of local organizations each year that provide needed services in the community. The company's year-long giving efforts provided a total of $16,815 to charitable organizations in 2016, with recipients ranging from homeless shelters to museums, to environmental and educational foundations and youth sports organizations.

Cal Water selected 12 local charities to support in 2016, including the American Cancer Society, Bakersfield Senior Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County, and Golden Empire Affordable Housing, Inc. According to District Manager Rudy Valles, all contributions were donated by the company's stockholders as part of the company's philanthropic giving program and not paid for by ratepayers.

"At Cal Water, we are not just committed to providing high-quality, reliable water service, we are also part of the community, proudly serving Bakersfield residents and businesses since 1926," Valles said. "We believe that supporting worthy organizations that improve the quality of life in this city is part of our promise to provide quality, service, and value."

Additionally, many Cal Water employees serve the community through volunteerism with local charities and membership in local service organizations. Their involvement includes coaching Little League baseball, mentoring youth in juvenile hall, supporting community events hosted by the American Legion, and participating in Toys for Tots drives, among others.

"We have 130 employees, most of whom live here as well," Valles said. "We are all truly invested in our community."

Cal Water serves about 278,500 people through 69,100 service connections in Bakersfield. The company, which has provided water service in the area since 1926, was ranked "Highest in Customer Satisfaction among Water Utilities in the West" in 2016 by J.D.
