Cal Water Begins Installation of New Water Main on Andeta Way to Support Ladera Residents
MENLO PARK, Calif. — As part of its commitment to ensuring critical infrastructure remains safe and reliable, California Water Service (Cal Water) has started a water infrastructure upgrade in the Ladera area of Portola Valley, Calif., to ensure customers and firefighters continue to have the water they need for their everyday and emergency needs.
The project, which is expected to be completed in late June, includes the installation of 400 feet of new 6-inch ductile iron water main and four individual customer service connections. Crews will also install one new fire hydrant to improve access for firefighters. Installation will take place on Andeta Way, from La Mesa Drive to the end of Andeta Way.
"As essential service workers, our crews will continue working to deliver quality, service, and value to residents and businesses in Ladera," said District Manager Dawn Smithson. "This important infrastructure upgrade will enable us to keep delivering a reliable supply of safe, high-quality water to our customers for their drinking, cooking, handwashing, and other household needs, both now and for many years to come. Additionally, it will help first responders protect the community in an emergency."
Crews will make every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which will be performed Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Following installation, crews will conduct water quality testing before connecting existing individual customer service lines to the new water main. Crews will also restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.
Cal Water serves approximately 60,900 people through 18,900 service connections in Portola Valley, Woodside, Atherton, and portions of Menlo Park, Redwood City, and San Mateo County and about 2 million people through 489,600 service connections in California. The utility has provided water service in the area since 1936. Additional information may be obtained online at www.calwater.com.
