Water Infrastructure Improvement Project Underway in Boronda

SALINAS, Calif. — California Water Service (Cal Water) has begun a water infrastructure upgrade in Boronda, Calif., that will strengthen water system reliability and infrastructure resiliency for customers' everyday needs. Additionally, the upgrade will provide enhanced fire protection to ensure firefighters have access to the water supply they need during an emergency.

The project, which is expected to be completed at the end of October, includes the installation of 1,960 feet of new 8-inch and 6-inch PVC water main. Crews will also replace two fire hydrants and 37 new 1-inch, individual customer service connections. Installation is taking place on El Rancho Way, between Boronda Road and El Rancho Court, and on Fontes Lane, between Apostolic Lane and Randall Road.

"These improvements will help protect against leaks and ensure safe and reliable water service for Boronda residents and businesses, both now and for many years to come. First responders will also benefit from improved water system reliability, which will enhance their ability to protect the community if faced with a fire," said District Manager Brenda Granillo. "This proactive, strategic investment in our infrastructure helps support our promise to deliver quality, service, and value to our customers."

Crews are making every effort to minimize traffic delays during construction, which is scheduled for Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. After construction is completed, crews will conduct water quality testing and connect individual service lines to the new water main. Crews will also restore all streets, sod, and landscaping impacted by the construction.

When water service must be temporarily interrupted for one to two hours as individual services are connected to the new water main, residents will be notified in advance.

Cal Water serves about 123,200 people through 31,300 service connections in Salinas and about two million people through 486,900 service connections in California. The utility has provided water service in the area since 1962. Additional information may be obtained online at www.calwater.com.
